"The Hose" Drill

This drill comes from Jim Dice our February 2003 Drill of the Month Winner.

Equipment:

  • Garden hose cut to length of hitters bat.
  • Batting Tee
  • Extra Plate
  • Plastic ball – different sizes with dot on balls.
(Dot is strictly for focusing on the ball.)

Setup: Put the extra plate down and place the batting tee on top of the plate so that the pole is out on the front part in the zone where ball would be hit.

Put plastic ball with dot on tee so that the ball dot faces to the back of tee. Hitter sets up as if they would be hitting a regular ball off the tee.

Set ball on tee and let the hitter swing – if fundamentals are there they will hit the ball, just as hard with that hose, as they would with a real bat. It will develop hand-eye coordination and concentration for hitting.

This drill is safe, fun, and it will help develop more solid hits. Works great for ages 3 years and up. You will love it!
